Gas Spring Characteristics

Gas springs are characterized by their ability to provide a nearly constant force throughout their stroke due to compressed gas within a cylinder, offering a smooth and controlled motion, with key features including: a flat force curve, high durability, low friction, adjustable force depending on gas pressure, and the use of nitrogen gas as the primary working fluid, often combined with a small amount of oil for damping purposes; they are commonly used in applications like car hoods, furniture doors, and medical equipment where a consistent lifting force is needed.

As the piston and piston rod are pressed into the cylinder, volume reduces and pressure increases. This causes pushing force to increase. In conventional gas springs, this increase is normally around 30% at full compression.
