Colewell's 7.5 Inch Gas Struts are the ideal replacement for short, compact lift supports found on tool boxes, RV overhead cabinets, and small equipment hatches. Measured 7.5 inches (approx. 190mm) from ball-to-ball when extended, these struts provide the perfect lift for smaller, lighter doors that larger struts can't fit.
Designed for durability and smooth operation, our 7.5-inch struts feature a nitrogen-filled cylinder and hydraulic damping to prevent lids from snapping open. Available in multiple force ratings (20lbs - 60lbs), they ensure your lid stays open securely and closes gently.
| Extended Length | 7.5 Inches (190mm). Measured from the center of one mounting point to the center of the other. |
| Force Options | 20lbs (89N) to 60lbs (267N). Choose the force that matches your lid weight to avoid overpowering the hinges. |
| Compressed Length | Approx. 5.5 Inches (140mm). Compact compression allows it to fit inside shallow boxes. |
| Material Build | Cylinder: Black Powder Coated Steel. Rod: Nitride Plated for corrosion resistance and smooth cycling. |
The short 7.5-inch length is specifically engineered for applications with limited vertical clearance, such as under-seat storage or shallow electronics boxes.
Equipped with standard 10mm ball sockets, making them compatible with most mounting brackets used in RVs, boats, and toolboxes.
Despite their small size, these struts contain hydraulic oil to cushion the end of the opening stroke, protecting small hinges from damage.
Tested to over 40,000 cycles. High-quality seals ensure the gas stays inside, maintaining lifting force over years of use.

Lid Support: Fits perfectly on side-mount truck tool boxes and portable mechanic's chests where a shorter strut is required.

A: Measure from the center of the ball socket on one end to the center of the ball socket on the other end when the strut is fully extended. It should be close to 7.5 inches (190mm).
A: Look for a number on your old strut (e.g., 40lbs, 180N). If there's no number, weigh the lid at the point where the strut attaches. Two 40lb struts can lift an 80lb lid.
A: Be careful. A strut that is too strong will make the lid hard to close and can damage the hinges. It's best to stick close to the original force rating.
A: It comes with ball sockets on the ends. If you need the mounting brackets that screw into the wood/metal, those are usually sold separately.
